Her background in painting informs a practice that resists contemporary architecture's obsession with cleanliness and erasure, looking instead to structural expression, material presence, and the kind of authorship more often associated with making than building.
She began her career designing in physical models with Frank Gehry, and was most recently leading gallery and museum projects at Johnston Marklee. Her architecture is equally shaped by the places she's called home: the passive cooling of Oklahoma's dog-trots, the radical flexibility of New Orleans' shotgun houses, the quiet dignity of Berkeley's working-class craftsmans, and the gentle density of Los Angeles' bungalow courts.
Brooke holds a BA in Fine Arts from Brown University and an M.Arch from UC Berkeley, and teaches architecture studios at USC.
His practice operates deliberately at the edges of the discipline, bridging to policy, development, and construction technology, with each excursion bringing outside insight back to the practice of building.
Ryan was previously Associate Director at cityLAB UCLA, where he developed affordable housing initiatives with the City of Los Angeles, unlocking underutilized public land for expanded homeownership across the city. He began his career at kevin daly Architects, where economy and clarity became design principles in their own right.
Ryan holds a BA from UCLA and an M.Arch from UC Berkeley, and currently serves on the board of the LA Forum for Architecture and Urban Design.
